Connection of times and meanings: sacred trees

In the past, people were characterized by sacralizing nature objects: mountains, rivers, stones, plants. A tree with a life span that is much longer than the life span of an early man, giving him shelter and food, became the basis for constructing the primary matrix of the world - the world tree. His image became an integral part of the vast majority of religious systems. Moreover, the presence of concrete trees - witnesses of the epoch of the birth of these religions reinforced religious dogma and adorned religious practice. Nowadays there are very few such trees, therefore the death of each of them is perceived as a sign of the approach of a universal catastrophe. But the same image of a tree gives people the strength to believe that humanity will be able to survive its consequences.

Key words: trees, sacralization of nature, religions, totems, holidays.
