Analysis of the features of the "Mighty Handful" style

This article discusses the specifics of the activities of the "Mighty Handful" - the Russian creative musical and artistic community, formed by a group of young progressive Russian composers of the 1860s and which had a significant impact on the formation and prosperity of Russian musical culture. In this study, an attempt is made to identify the creative features of the "Mighty Handful" in the context of the socio-historical situation in Russia in the 19th century in order to interpret the connotation of the musical works of the so-called "Russian Five" and the creative individualities of its representatives, who could not stay away from events and views of their time and, to the extent possible, reflected the realities of life and the values of the Russian consciousness in the mirror of their works. The activities of the "Mighty Handful" are marked by Balakirev's empirical approach, Rimsky-Korsakov's ideas of realism and content, and Mussorgsky's idealized views.
